Eco-Friendly Container Gardening Sweepstakes to Award $500 in Prizes

Hendricks County Extension Master Gardeners have partnered with the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex to sponsor the "Eco-Friendly Container Gardening Sweepstakes."

The Sweepstakes will be judged at the Hendricks County Fair July 19-26 with at least three major winners. A $200 prize will be awarded to the winner of the commercial category and another $200 prize awarded to the winner of the public category. The "Public Choice" winner of $100 will be chosen by those who attend the County Fair.

All Hendricks County residents are eligible to enter the Sweepstakes by mailing the completed application and $10 entry fee to the Hendricks County Extension Office by April 1, 2008.

At the Master Gardeners' "Gardening for ALL Ages" show on April 5, 30 contestants will be drawn from the submitted applications. Those names drawn will move into the Sweepstakes contest for judging at the fair. Guidelines and applications for the Sweepstakes are available from the Hendricks County Extension Office and from the www.hendricksgardeners.com website. An application may be for an individual, family, company, church or club/association. Each application will be given a pair of garden gloves and packages of seeds.
The thirty containers planted for the sweepstakes will be provided to the contestants along with the initial plants and potting materials. The containers are the property of the Fairgrounds and will be used there for enhancement to the grounds and for crowd control. At the end of summer Master Gardeners will move the plants to the flower beds and walkways of the Fairgrounds.
